Key Responsibilities of the Payroll Manager:

  • Payroll Processing: Accurately process payroll for employees across multiple states, ensuring timely payments, deductions, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Policy Development: Create, implement, and maintain payroll policies and procedures to ensure consistency, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Multi-State Compliance: Stay updated on payroll regulations across multiple states and ensure adherence to local laws, tax filings, and reporting requirements.
  • Supervision: Lead and supervise payroll staff, providing guidance and support to ensure accurate processing, issue resolution, and employee satisfaction.
  • Tax Filing: Ensure accurate and timely payroll tax reporting, filings, and payments at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Reporting: Generate payroll-related reports and provide insights to HR and finance for forecasting, budgeting, and audits.
  • System Maintenance: Maintain payroll systems, including periodic updates, troubleshooting, and process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Employee Communication: Act as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries and concerns, providing excellent customer service to all employees.

Qualifications of the Payroll Manager:

  • Proven experience in payroll management, with a focus on multi-state payroll processing.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations, particularly in multi-state jurisdictions.
  • Experience developing and implementing payroll policies and procedures.
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage and mentor staff.
  • Proficiency with payroll software, UKG a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus but not required.
