Position Title: Senior Data Engineer Location: Candidate must live in the greater DMV area for occasional onsite government work and meetings Position Overview: Senior Data Engineer to join one of our federal projects supporting DHS Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The ideal candidate will enhance our client's data capabilities by leveraging data visualization, advanced data analytics, and database management technologies to improve operational efficiency, improve customer service, and enhance data management processes. The Senior Data Engineer will take a senior role in the development and implementation of these data-driven visualization solutions. Your future duties and responsibilities: Database Development and Management:
o Design, develop, and maintain scalable database architectures to support business needs.
o Optimize database performance and troubleshoot complex issues involving data storage, retrieval, and manipulation.
o Assist in troubleshooting issues. Data Visualization and Reporting:
o Create and manage data visualization reports and dashboards using tools like Jasper Reports, Tableau, and other visualization platforms.
o Translate complex data sets into easily understandable visual reports for stakeholders across various departments. ETL Processes:
o Develop and manage ETL pipelines to ensure efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading processes. (Python, R, SQL, Postgres, Airflow)
o Implement automation of data integration tasks for real-time and batch processing.
• Data Analytics and Business Intelligence:
o Partner with data analysts to interpret data patterns and trends that can drive key business decisions.
o Provide guidance on data modeling and analytics to support AI/ML and advanced data projects (e.g., Python, R, SQL) Consulting and Collaboration:
o Work closely with internal and external clients, including government agencies, to provide data-driven solutions that align with business objectives.
o Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for ETL, reporting, and data visualization projects. Cloud Technology Utilization:
o Use cloud-native tools (e.g., AWS S3, AWS EC2) to process, store, and manage data.
o Optimize cloud data storage and retrieval processes to enhance performance and scalability. Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
• Bachelor's Degree in Technology, Business, mathematics, computer science, information systems, or other related discipline from an accredited college, university, or academic institution in the United States.
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, and data management; 4+ of which were in direct support of Federal IT projects
• Proficiency in SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or other relational database systems.
• Familiarity with cloud-based databases and platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Expertise in ETL processes and data pipeline automation. (Python, Postgres, Airflow)
• Knowledge of data analytics, data visualization, and data governance principles.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, coupled with high interpersonal skills to build relationships across teams and stakeholders.
• Existing and active DHS EOD/clearance (ICE preferred).
