This Job:
Title: Product Manager
You'll Report to: Director of Product Management
The Product Manager is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of all products, including manuals and forms as well as ensuring competitiveness, profitability, and compliance with state regulatory agencies.
What You'll Do:
Analyze existing portfolio by examining profitability, new business writings, products, competitive position, and capacity.
Identify potentially unprofitable segments in the overall portfolio of business. Includes locating those segments, making appropriate recommendations and follow through on agreed upon actions.
Analyze new business for potential target areas, as well as areas to avoid.
Assess costs of conducting business in various areas in comparison to related premiums. Compare rates to the marketplace to ensure competitiveness and make recommendations.
Manage the development and implementation of products, forms, manuals, rates and rules for new programs and revisions to existing programs.
Analysis of claims frequency and severity
Participate in reinsurance placement, which includes providing reinsurers with data, analysis and immediate support.
Research and analyze company and external sources to identify market and state trends, opportunities and issues.
Direct pricing strategies. Provide analytical support to make fact-based pricing decisions based upon actuarial rate indications, claim handling trends, underwriting initiatives, competitor intelligence, regulatory and legal environments.
Manage implementation of vendor products for new projects and programs.
Support development and distribution of policyholder and agency informational materials
Responsible for the development and implementation of new programs across all departments.
Improve or create new tools as needed to assist product development and analysis.
Support the development and career path of product analysts.
What You'll Need to be a Top Candidate:
Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference for degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Finance, Statistics, Risk Management or similar degree.
Experience: 5-8 years of experience in Property and Casualty Insurance with 3-5 years of experience as a Product Manager with P&L responsibility. Preferred candidate will possess excellent computer skills working with queries, spreadsheets, data warehouse knowledge, etc.
Skills & Knowledge:
Exceptionally skilled in documentation, presentation, organization and leadership. Practiced research skills and strong organization capabilities.
Excellent Project Management skills.
Experience in communicating with varied organizational tiers and customer types.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Presentation skills including delivery to varied organizational tiers.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, priority-shifting environment.
Advanced user - Microsoft Excel.
Strong computer spreadsheet and database skills: COGNOS and SQL, preferred. Demonstrated ability to learn additional software applications as required.
Ability to present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organized and diplomatic manner; gather information from multiple parties to ensure all perspectives are heard and considered; listen to others to respond effectively to ideas, thoughts and questions; express information and ideas effectively in settings including aligned or un-aligned feedback to obtain desired results.
Your Environment:
Working Conditions: Normal business office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.
Travel: Minimum, as required.
