IU Radio/TV is home to Indiana Public Media, the south-central Indiana region's trusted source of locally produced news, arts, and culture series from WFIU Public Radio, WTIU Public Television, and nationally distributed programming from NPR and PBS.

Harmonia is a weekly, hour-long radio program of early music, hosted by Angela Mariani, and distributed to public radio stations across the country. The program explores the courts, cathedrals, fairs, and stages of the past, teaching listeners about the music, art, and history of various musical eras. Harmonia is produced in the studios of WFIU.

Job Summary

WFIU is seeking individuals with expertise in Early Music and historical performance to join our pool of scriptwriters for the nationally syndicated radio program Harmonia.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Uses knowledge of medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music to craft hour-long programs that provide historical information on the early music genre.
  • Uses themes in creative and unexpected ways as episodes are written thematically.
  • Submits playlist information.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE

Preferred
  • Coursework or related experience in the fields of music and/or musicology (specialty in Early Music)
SKILLS

Required
  • Ability to write clearly for a general audience
  • Demonstrates familiarity with current trends, performers, and recordings in the early music genre
  • Ability to work independently
Preferred
  • Excellent problem-solving and time-management skills
  • Demonstrates some science background

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Hours

This position is project based, and writers typically create 10-12 scripts over the course of a year. The average script takes approximately 10 hours to create.

Part-time employees at Indiana University may not work over 29 hours per week across all University-held positions.
