Job description

Position - Controls Automation Engineer
Location - Grand Rapids, MI (Onsite)
Salary - $100,000 - $125,000

As a Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for creating automated systems for use in a manufacturing environment. This position will collaborate with leadership to improve existing and develop future automation capabilities and create detailed project road maps for automation projects that positively support safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) and a solid background of 5-10 years of experience in controls engineering, with expertise in Allen Bradley PLC, HMI, Drives, and Network systems.

Essential Functions:

  • Lead and oversee design projects, including the development of new capabilities, system integrations, automation, robotics, and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve equipment-related issues by identifying root causes and implementing permanent corrective measures.
  • Assess and enhance current manufacturing processes to identify cost-saving opportunities, improve resource utilization, and streamline operations using LEAN principles.
  • Collaborate in the development and modification of products, ensuring the organization's manufacturing capabilities align with customer requirements.
  • Conduct takt and cycle time analyses for all processes to optimize efficiency.
  • Ensure full compliance with OSHA, NFPA70E, and other safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field.
  • Design controls systems including pneumatic, hydraulic, Programmable Logic Computers (PLC), and peripheral device programming
  • 5+ years of experience in controls engineering with a focus on Allen Bradley PLC, HMI, Drives, and Network systems.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing industries is highly desirable.
  • Experience preparing drawings, specifications, and material lists as needed for awarded jobs.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI design, and network configuration.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve control system issues.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and safety protocols.
