The New Jersey Rates & Regulatory Affairs Analyst's level will be determined based upon the results of the interview process which considers the candidate's skills, work history, experience level, and other relevant qualifications.
This position is in the New Jersey Rates and Regulatory Affairs group. The preferred reporting location is the Morristown, NJ office. (The group is currently working remotely, subject to changes in Company protocols). Other reporting locations may be considered.
Responsibilities:
- Supporting efforts to ensure that FirstEnergy's New Jersey's distribution utilities receive adequate and timely recovery of their costs
- Assisting in the developing and managing various regulatory proceedings (including supporting the writing of testimony, the discovery process, and administration of the Companies' tariff filings)
- Using analytical skills to develop an understanding of various ratemaking concepts, including revenue requirements, cost allocation, cost of service, rate of return, regulatory accounting, and the time value of money
- Assisting in strengthening the relationship between FirstEnergy's New Jersey utility companies and the Public Utilities Commission of New Jersey
- Assisting in the development of strategies on other regulatory and engineering matters, such as grid modernization, emerging technologies, line extensions, and lighting
- Supporting the regional customer service and engineering organizations on matters such as tariff implementation and enforcement, and other customer inquiries
- Conducting business-specific research, analyzing data, interpreting results, and making recommendations
- Meeting the needs of internal and external customers through sound service and responsiveness
- Providing analytical support to mid to executive level management
- Exercising sound decision making by developing alternatives and recommendations to advance Company positions and improve work processes
- Developing effective working relationship with employees within own work group and throughout the FirstEnergy organization
- Actively seeking formal and informal learning opportunities to better understand evolving regulatory and policy issues
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, engineering, math or related discipline is required. Advanced degree is a plus.
- Minimum 4-7 years relevant work experience required. Relevant work experiences will include analytical, research and relationship building skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word). Experience in SAP, Business Explorer, Qlikview, or other data querying tools is a plus.
- Must be willing to travel for business to other company locations as appropriate for hearings, meetings and other activities, which may include overnight travel.
- Demonstrate a questioning attitude to learn, produce results, and develop relationships.
- Strong analytical abilities, including problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making.
- Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
