The Senior Manager, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will lead a high-performing EHS team, ensuring regulatory compliance and overseeing all safety programs, including environmental permits, waste management, industrial hygiene, and biosafety. This role requires adherence to EHS regulations and cGMP standards, working collaboratively with internal and external partners to support business continuity.

Description

The Senior EHS Manager (Pharma) will:

  • Leadership & Team Management: Lead the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team, fostering collaboration to meet company objectives and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Oversee environmental and safety permits, industrial hygiene, waste/wastewater management, and biosafety, ensuring adherence to EHS regulations and cGMP standards.
  • Safety Culture Advocacy: Drive and enhance the safety culture, holding all teams accountable for safety performance and compliance.
  • Risk and Incident Management: Approve Biological Assessments of Risk (BAR) for new materials, manage incident investigations, and ensure effective EHS program execution.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with Occupational Health Services, manage OSHA logs, and interface with regulatory agencies, representing the site during inspections and audits.
  • Strategic Oversight: Provide EHS oversight in facility permitting, regulatory strategies, and participate in site-wide initiatives beyond EHS scope.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Partner with leadership to develop and manage the annual operating budget, staffing needs, and external service providers for EHS-related programs


Profile

The Successful Senior EHS Manager will have the following experience:

  • Industry Experience: Must have a background in a highly regulated industry such as Life Sciences, Food & Beverage, Chemical, Medical Devices, or Aerospace.
  • Certification Requirements: Must hold one of the following certifications:
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
    • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) with the commitment to obtain CSP within a specified timeframe after joining
    • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • People Management: Proven experience in managing a team of 3 or more, with the ability to lead with charisma and empathy.
  • Cultural Fit: Must demonstrate humility and thrive in a humble, team-oriented environment.
  • Autonomy and Leadership: Opportunity to lead the department independently, with minimal supervision.

Preferred Experience:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's in science, engineering, or related field; master's preferred. EHS-related degree ideal.
  • 8+ years in EHS with leadership at multi-facility campuses.
  • Preferred certifications: CSP, CIH, QEP; professional licenses are a plus.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Familiar with bioprocess manufacturing and EHS compliance.
  • Experience in biopharma cGMP and leading cross-functional teams.
  • Skilled in employee safety programs and regulatory interactions.
  • Proficient in EHS software and driving safety culture.
