Purpose of the Job

The SBA Director of Credit is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the credit administration, risk management, and loan approval processes within the Small Business Administration (SBA) lending department. They will ensure the credit union's SBA lending portfolio remains sound, compliant, and aligned with our strategic objectives.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages the SBA credit team, providing guidance, training, and development to ensure high performance.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains credit policies and procedures to ensure compliance with SBA guidelines and regulations. Work closely with OCRM and SBA auditors to ensure compliance.
  • Oversees the underwriting and approval process for SBA loans, ensuring timely and accurate decision-making.
  • Holds authority to approve SBA 7(a) loans up to $x,xxx,xxx.
  • Monitors and manages the SBA loan portfolio, identifying and mitigating risks to maintain portfolio quality.
  • Collaborates with senior leaders to develop and execute strategic initiatives for the SBA lending program.
  • Reviews and approves loan recommendations from the credit team, ensuring adherence to credit union policies and sound credit practices.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with SBA and other regulatory agencies, ensuring compliance and fostering strong relationships.
  • Analyzes market trends, economic conditions, and industry developments to identify opportunities and risks for SBA lending.
  • Provides regular reports and updates to the executive team on the performance and risk profile of the SBA loan portfolio.
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and excellence within the SBA credit team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, along with strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must have a strong understanding of SBA loan programs, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Must have a high level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to ethical standards
  • Must have ability to understand all business processes within the credit union
  • Must be resourceful and well organized, with strong attention to detail
  • Must have good reasoning abilities and sound judgment required
  • Must be able to work in a general office environment
  • Must be flexible and able to shift resources and priorities as required
  • Should possess a strong commitment to providing excellent service to Truliant's members

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, bending, and stooping required
  • Must be able to sit at a desk for long periods of time and use a computer
  • Must be able to moderately lift or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 10 pounds

Education and Background

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • 10 years of experience in SBA lending required
  • Proven leadership experience with a track record of managing high-performing teams required
