The Fleet & Equipment Purchasing Manager is responsible for the procurement of fleet and indirect equipment (trackable tools) for New River Electrical. The Manager will oversee purchasing and replacement of fleet vehicles; register agency vehicles per policy; renew tags for vehicles; maintain an inventory of all fleet and equipment. The Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and drive continuous improvement in the procurement process. This position reports directly to the Director of Equipment & Facilities Operations.


Duties/Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies for fleet and trackable tools aligning with company objectives and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Effectively manage a $50 million plus annual operating budget, for fleet, rentals, and trackable tools.
  • Manage the Rental Asset Coordinator, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Equipment and Facilities Operations to identify and evaluate potential suppliers, negotiate contracts, and manage vendor relationships to ensure cost-effectiveness and reliability of supply.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand their fleet and equipment procurement needs and develop sourcing plans.
  • Monitor market trends, supplier performance, and industry best practices to make informed decisions and maintain a competitive advantage.
  • Conduct regular supplier performance evaluations, implement corrective actions, and foster long-term relationships with key suppliers.
  • Drive continuous improvement in fleet and trackable tools procurement processes, including the implementation of technologies and tools.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Equipment and Facilities Operations to establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and report on procurement performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing files and records (purchase orders, contracts, etc.) to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings for fleet procurement and rental.
  • Continually improve purchasing methods/processes.
  • Engage with vendors spanning a regional network across multiple states to uphold optimal standards for the acquisition, lease and rental of fleet assets as well as the procurement and rental of indirect equipment and tools.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Equipment & Facilities Operations to formulate lifecycle goals across fleet assets, while retaining a focus on the ROI of each asset.
  • Ensure fleet assets are compliant with EPA and DOT standards and all other equipment assets meet industry standards and job associated safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Equipment and Facilities Operations to annually evaluate and reset all company equipment insurable values prior to submission, and on a case-by-case basis work with the CFO, Risk Management, and Safety departments on all accidents involving fleet assets for insurance claims and settlements while spearheading the timely replacement of the asset(s).
  • Develop and evaluate all national/strategic account initiatives/discount structures, guaranteeing that expenditures on fleet and indirect equipment related expenses adhere to industry best practices and yield optimal returns.


Qualifications

  • Associate's degree required, bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 5-10 years of professional experience in operations support or related position.
  • Experience in construction or utility industry is mandatory.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and preferably Viewpoint.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, and external professionals.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results within fixed time frames.
  • Resourceful team-player, yet with the ability to effectively work independently.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and conduct self in an ethical manner.


Travel

Expect occasional travel for off-site meetings, events, satellite operations, job-site visits, or other business matters.

The employee is required to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time, however situations will arise where the ability to lift and carry 50 plus pounds in execution of tasks and duties.
