Job Summary
The Director of Nursing responsible for the management and program development/operations of Nursing Services Department at Woods. Plans, implements and monitors an interdisciplinary approach for nursing service delivery and ensures compliance with licensing/ accreditation/standards. Develops, implements, monitors and ensures quality health services for Woods individuals. Serves as the Clinical Nurse Educator and a liaison to infection prevention activities.
Responsibilities:
Directs the work of all employees assigned to the Nursing Department.
Directly supervises the Nursing Services management team.
Oversees employees' performance, responsibilities, and implements/ monitors an administrative system, which ensures compliance to licensing/accrediting agencies and Woods Operational Policies.
Provides leadership direction and strategy for operations associated with direct resident care activities, customer experience, clinical professional development, including continuous improvement of nursing services and staff to meet the needs and expectations of those served by Woods.
Oversees policies and procedures in a standardized procedural manual and ensures compliance with organizational, local, state, and federal healthcare guidelines, regulations, agency inspections, and reviews.
Ensures the use of consistent practices in hiring, performance evaluations/reviews, progressive discipline, discharges, and promotions in accordance with the Human Resources' guidelines.
Reviews staffing needs and develops/updates plans to ensure adequate/required staffing across the Nursing Department. Coordinates the use of agency nurses when the need arises.
Develops/monitors operating budget within the Nursing Department. Ensures for sound fiscal management and accountability.
Chairs, participates in, and serves on appropriate committees.
Conducts routine administrative inspections/reviews on all shifts and provides feedback to employees as needed.
Reviews, investigates, and monitors incidents for clients/employees and ensures appropriate follow-up.
Ensures that regular required and planned in-service training is implemented for employees. Conducts planned facility-wide in-service training as needed.
Maintains professional/ethical relationships with all employees/clients/family/guardians/ agencies and facilitates effective working relationships between the Nursing Department and employees of other departments.
Maintains visibility for the Nursing Department across homes/shifts/day programs and fosters open communications between/among employees.
Maintains communication with nurse managers regarding clients who are hospitalized to check on progress, keeps families/guardians/agencies/other departments informed.
Ensures employee awareness regarding Health/Safety issues.
Facilitates appropriate maintenance/utilization/security for the Nursing Department through coordination with other departments; working closely with the Medical Center at Woods.
Coordinates and ensures adequate pharmacy services for all Woods clients.
Oversees infection prevention activities at Woods including but not limited to the following: Manages, evaluates, develops, implements, and monitors infection prevention activities at Woods to prevent or minimize infectious disease, and assists with staff training.
Partners with Operations, Training and Human Resources to develop curricula that is reflective of evidence-based practice and uses the appropriate methods of teaching to accommodate learning styles and the learning environment, including in the design and implementation of Wood's orientation and on-job-training curricula.
Educates nursing and non-nursing employees on the use of new equipment, supplies, medications, treatments, and instruments; coordinates in-service training and workshops as needed.
Provides consultation to enhance continuing education, professional development opportunities and mentorship opportunities for nurses.
Meets routinely with assigned employees. Interprets and communicates information to assigned employees in an effective/timely manner.
Actively promotes and models critical thinking, commitment to professional development, and lifelong learning.
Performs other duties as assigned, including but not limited to direct patient care in emergencies.
Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current registered nurse licensure by the PA State Board of Nursing. Candidates who are enrolled in courses in pursuit of their Masters of Nursing diploma will be considered based on years' experience (experience in the IDD field is preferred)
Candidates with a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited Nursing Program and PA license as a Registered Nurse (RN) and 3 or more years in a nursing leadership role will be considered.
Current driver's license
Current Professional CPR
Must be able to work flexible hours in order to meet with employees working evening and night shifts.
Must physically be able to provide behavioral support and intervention as needed to ensure client and staff safety.
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
