Job description

This is a highly responsible position within the Senior Center Program. The individual functions as an assistant to the Director of a multi-purpose Senior Center that may be designated as a community focal point. The Assistant Director not only works in conjunction with the Director to further the goals of the center program but also has sole authority to manage and direct the center in the absence of the center's director. Planning and/or instructing various arts and craft classes Planning and implementing the special programs and activities: events, parties, trips, etc Securing speakers for the center's programs in life skills, education, nutrition, tax preparation, health issues, etc Responsible for escorting groups of seniors on trips Responsible for securing the travel and meal arrangements for the trips Ensure the welfare of the participants on any trip and assisting them with any unusual situation(s) that may arise Coordinating nutrition programs and activities with the centers operations Completing forms for membership and attendance at center in general or by activity Maintaining accurate records, statistical reports, and inventory of the center's supplies Maintaining prescribed book and records of the center's financial activity Prepares a quarterly senior center newsletter Provide information on the services, agency and or community has to offer as well as making referrals, as necessary, to appropriate agencies for further information Ensure the physical maintenance of the center facility during its normal working hours and handling any emergency situation that may arise Maintain the center's equipment and ensure of its appropriate set-up for the center's functions Have a knowledge of basic first aid and CPR If necessary, supervise and direct activities of a neighborhood center or another senior center during periods of extended absence of the Director and/or Assistant Director In the absence of the Director, will have sole responsibility for the duties above; including the supervision of the nutrition managers, volunteers, and part-time instructors The individual acts as agency representative in all center related programs involving consumers including responding to questions for information via email in person, or over the telephone and making referrals to consumers to appropriate human service agencies to obtain benefits and services to which they are eligible to receive.
