Don's Prepared Foods is the leading manufacturer on the East Coast of prepared gourmet deli salads, gourmet cream cheese spreads, dips, entrée's and more.

Don's is a family owned business and manufacturers over 130 products spanning across its three brands Don's Salads, Melanie's Medleys and Artisan Deli.

Don's Prepared Foods is currently seeking a Quality Assurance Process Control Technician to join the QA Department at our ready to eat food manufacturing plant.

Job Summary:

Provide support to the QA Department, production, shipping and receiving. Implement and monitor procedures and processes to facilitate ingredients are received to specifications and safe quality food is produced, packaged and shipped to specifications.


Key Responsibilities:

Coordinate with WH Receiving Utility Workers to check weights, units of measure and quality/appearance of incoming ingredients and document issues.

Conduct checks on frozen and fresh seafood (shrimp and surimi) sizes and weights by measuring, thawing and counting (if required).

Conduct checks in production rooms of employee recording of production (ingredients & packaging) on computer system tablets to make sure accurate data is being input.

Conduct checks on finished goods cased up items to verify expiration date on container matches case label.

Review outgoing shipments for accurate counts, expiration dates, documentation and TTR's are activated.

Assist in creating and updating company SOP's and enforce that they are being followed. Train or retrain employees on proper procedures as needed.

Backup to the QA Technician to perform all aspects of that position.

Perform SQF Related Tasks

Participate in writing and reviewing procedures.

Create check sheets when needed for data collection.

Participate in and conduct internal audits.

Keep document and record registers up to date.

Assist in organizing the SQF information with the creation of manuals, registers, and schedules.

Supplier Approval

Review & maintain supplier documentation to make sure it is up to date.

Maintain Raw Material Register up to date.

Ensure Company is meeting or exceeding all regulatory requirements

Perform regular product testing when needed.

Assist in implementing and documenting corrective actions for any deviations from our written plans.

Train where necessary.

Conduct allergen verification swabs

Write corrective actions when needed and perform follow up swabs to verify CA was successful.

Interact with Sanitation Manager.

Assist on annual label review process.

Perform regular check of allergen statements from our raw materials.

Monitor HACCP CCP's, sign off on monitoring of production paperwork

Backup/assist QA Technician with thermometer calibration.

Ensure Company is meeting or exceeding customer requirements

Monitor finished product as it is made for visual ingredients & overall visual appearance.

Assist with weekly label inventory.

Support R&D on new item shelf-life testing by participating in product evaluation.

Quality and Plant issues as relates to quality and food safety

Attend operational Meetings when needed.

Communicate any plant practices that need improvement to QA Manager and Assistant QA Manager / SQF Practitioner.

Report any maintenance issues to the Maintenance Department.

Document any incidents for non-conforming ingredients.

Training

Prepare training materials and share for translation.

Prepare quizzes for varied training.


Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science or Biology (preferred)
  • USDA/HACCP/SQF experience
  • Food Safety knowledge
  • GMP knowledge
  • Labeling experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills required
  • Excellent communications skills, well organized and dependable
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule.
  • Able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Ability to work in a refrigerated environment 34-38 degrees.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English a plus.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Word/Excel
