Technical Editor/Writer

Candidate will provide a wide array of technical documentation written to Military Specifications.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Developing and validating Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs), depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWRs), Repair Parts and Special Tools Lists (RPSTLs), and procedural art and illustrated graphics all developed to applicable Military Specifications.
  • Candidate must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well in a team environment.
  • Must be flexible with outstanding work ethic and possess the ability to respond quickly to company and customer needs.
  • Must be able to interface with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to verify and understand technical concepts and develop courses of action to ensure project completion is on time and within budget.
  • Candidate must be familiar with layout, design, and structure of Organizational, Intermediate and Depot level Technical Manuals (TM's) including Operation and Maintenance, Theory of Operation, Fault Isolation Procedures, and Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPB's).
  • Must be able to read and interpret engineering drawings and software description documents.


Required Experience:

  • Extensible Markup Language (XML)
  • Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation (XSLT)
  • Working knowledge and proficiency with eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML).
  • Arbortext Editor including Styler (5.4 or higher)
  • UltraEdit or similar
  • In depth knowledge of MIL-STD-40051c, MIL-STD-2361, MIL-PRF-63002 for Modification Work Orders, and MIL-PRF-63033 for Demilitarization.
  • Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Content Management Systems such as WindChill
  • Proficient with Microsoft office products (Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Sharepoint) and Adobe Acrobat (Standard/Professional).
  • Ability to write using clear and concise language that adheres to customer-established standards and conventions.
  • Ability to research and write technical content for maintenance technical manuals including installation, test, repair, troubleshooting procedures and repair parts and special tools lists (RPSTL).
  • Ability to acquire and verify subject matter content by interviewing workers engaged in developing products, observing production methods, referring to engineering drawings, notes, manuals, and similar publications.
  • Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) development experience.
  • Robust experience in training development, training conduct experience is a plus; previous or ability to attain instructor certification from one of the US Armed Services.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
