Position Type: Aide/Instructional Date Posted: 5/22/2024 Location: Loflin Middle School Date Available: 08/01/2024 Closing Date: until filled Additional Information: Show/Hide Job Title: Behavior Intervention Class (BIC) Aide Reports to: Principal Dept./School: Assigned Campus Exemption Status/Test: Nonexempt Pay Grade: PARA PG 2 / 160 day Minimum Salary: $18,764 Primary Purpose: Work with the Behavior Intervention Class teacher in a self contained setting to support students with behaviors that significantly interfere with academic and social adjustments within the educational setting. Focus on behavior intervention, acquisition of appropriate, replacement behaviors and development of age appropriate social skills to prepare students to return to the less restrictive setting. Maintain high academic standards by providing appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas. Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED Associate's degree, two years of study at an institute of higher learning, or have met formal academic assessment required by No Child Left Behind Act. Educational Aide Certification (preferred) College hours towards Education Certification (preferred) Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work with children with disabilities Ability to follow verbal and written instructions Ability to communicate effectively Experience: Some experience working with children Major Responsibilities and Duties: Implement, monitor and support the implementation of the IEP, as written, for students in the behavior intervention classroom. Enter and track student data for students placed in the behavior intervention classroom or caseload assigned, including entry of data in Xlogs. Assist in de-escalating students in classrooms or the behavior intervention classroom. Assist teachers with behaviors or disruptive behavior removals in the classroom. Assist behavior intervention teacher with gathering classwork. Co-plans or co-teaches social lessons with the behavior intervention teacher. Assist behavior intervention teacher with implementing social skill lessons. Provide direct instruction to students in a small group or individual setting. Model discipline strategies for teachers when needed. Collaborate with teachers, curriculum department and campus administration to develop aligned social lessons and behavior strategies. Manage and distribute discipline management resources/tools to teachers and provide training on the use of those resources. Observes and gives feedback to teachers to adjust interventions as necessary. Assist in the completion of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) on the campus. Assist with the implementation and adjustment of behavior improvement plans. Utilize strategies to de-escalate students in classrooms or the behavior intervention classroom. Work with students with behaviors or disruptive behavior removals in the classroom. Assist with escorting students to and from classes. Work with students in the classroom to role model appropriate behaviors. Assist with end of the day checkouts and homework checks. Oversee the behavior intervention classroom during ARD or RTI meetings. Supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. Provide or assist with personal care and medical care as stated in the IEP. Other: Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance. Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities: None Equipment Used: Personal computer, copier, and audiovisual equipment. Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent driving, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. Exposure to biological hazards. May be required to assist students with physical and/or emotional disabilities including regular heavy lifting of students; Assist in the control of behavior through physical restraints.
