OPENS: 30 SEPTEMBER 2024 CLOSES: 21 OCTOBER 2024 Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center (AFNWC) is currently seeking a full-time Mechanical Engineer and an Electrical/Electronics Engineer to work in the Missile Guidance Branch of the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Systems Directorate at Hill Air Force Base, near Layton, Utah. These positions are NH-830-03 (286102) and NH-855-03 (205994), which have a typical 2024 salary range of $86,962 - $134,435. These positions are not eligible for remote or full time telework; situational-based agreements may be available at the discretion of the hiring manager. The fundamental mission of the MMIII ICBM is to stand as a strategic deterrent to nuclear attack against the United States. The ICBM Systems Directorate manages the current ICBM technical life extension program and integrated life-cycle activities, including equipment spares, storage and transportation, modifications and equipment replacement, etc., to ensure that the ground-based leg of America's nuclear triad is "Never Doubted - Always Feared". The primary purpose of these positions is to be an Engineer in the MMIII Guidance Branch, which includes providing technical oversight on the critical MMIII Guidance and Control engineering subsystems and work products. DUTIES : Perform multidisciplinary professional engineering work involving the application of mechanical, industrial, aerospace, and/or other engineering disciplines to determine the business and technical needs of customers in the acquisition, development, or sustainment of weapon systems, sub-systems, support systems, equipment items, or an equivalent product. Serve as an engineer on a multi-disciplinary team, providing technical leadership and expertise on contractor work performance to include tracking progress, evaluating work products, supporting missions, and facilitating process development/improvement initiatives. Actively use Systems Engineering principles and processes to help sustain MMIII Missile Guidance Set instrumentation, test sets, and components. Proactively develops and presents technical briefings and reports to program stakeholders and senior leaders. Navigate the program team through technical review processes and boards. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies. SKILLS : Three or more years' experience in electrical/electronics engineering, mechanical/materials engineering, aerospace engineering, and/or systems engineering is typically required. Experience in the nuclear weapon systems enterprise, preferably ICBM MMIII weapon system, is highly desired. Experience in weapon system guidance, navigation, and control is highly valued. Experience with systems engineering processes including Systems Engineering Technical Reviews (e.g., Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review, Functional Configuration Audit/Physical Configuration Audit, etc.) is highly desired. Strong background in leadership, communication and interpersonal skills is preferred. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION : (NOT ALL-INCLUSIVE) U.S. CITIZENSHIP Employee must be able to obtain and maintain either a Top-Secret or Secret security clearance (depending on the position) and will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise. This is a drug testing designated position and is subject to random drug testing. To qualify as an engineer, employee must meet the education and specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards, Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Professional and Scientific Positions : Employee may be required to meet Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) requirements, which includes achieving Engineering and Technical Management "Practitioner" certification category within required timeframe after appointment.
