Job description

Duties Dispense drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and to provide information to health practitioners and patients about proper usage of medications. Evaluate transcription and interpretation of a physician's prescription order for appropriateness of drug therapy to include evaluation of the drug selected and the regimen prescribed (dose, frequency, duration). Interview patients to assess for drug allergies and past adverse medication reactions. Prepare, compounds and dispense pharmaceuticals for patients of all ages, conduct education for patients and healthcare professionals. Partake in drug use evaluations and other quality assurance activities. Educate and counsel patients about their drug therapy in order to maximize proper use of medications to improve therapeutic outcomes. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges. Selectee will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption. Subject to work on any day or shift, including PMs, night, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements. A pre-placement medical examination is required due to lifting requirement up to 40 pounds. Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions. Position may be designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and/or Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Pharmacist: Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirement above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0660 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. Licensure: A current, active, valid, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, a territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia. (Note: You must attach a copy of your license.) Medical Requirement: Must be able to distinguish basic colors. Experience: One year of professional pharmacy experience which includes dispensing medication, preparing pharmaceuticals, and providing clinical functions such as developing pharmacokinetics and pharmacotherapeutic regimens and medication counseling to patients. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Due to frequent contact with patients, the work involves regular and reoccurring exposure to moderate risks such as contagious diseases. The position may require work with highly toxic chemotherapeutic agents where aseptic techniques and safety precautions must be closely followed.
