Job description

Job Title: Interim Head of Repairs

Location: South West England / Hybrid
Contract Duration: 6 months (ongoing)
Pay: 450 to 550 per day - Inside IR35 (depending on experience)

A Local Authority in the South West of England is currently seeking an Interim Head of Repairs to lead and transform the Repairs Service. This role is pivotal in ensuring that residents receive the highest quality repair services while managing costs effectively. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on community satisfaction and service efficiency.



Main Responsibilities:

  • Organizational Development:

    • Support the review and implementation of a new repairs organizational structure and operating model to enhance service delivery.
  • Leadership:

    • Provide effective leadership to the Repairs Service, managing a dedicated team of approximately 30 staff members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Quality Assurance:

    • Ensure that the procurement, quality, and performance of contractors consistently meet the highest standards, ensuring a positive experience for residents.
  • Resident Engagement:

    • Actively engage with residents to understand their needs and expectations, facilitating improvements in services, reducing costs, and helping to develop vibrant neighborhoods where people enjoy living.
  • Performance & Budget Management:

    • Create a culture that emphasizes performance and budget management, ensuring a clear connection between operational costs, service quality, and achieving right-first-time repairs.
  • Cost Management & Satisfaction:

    • Implement strategies to reduce costs while simultaneously increasing resident satisfaction with the services provided.
  • Process Improvement:

    • Lead initiatives to streamline business processes and systems across the repairs service, including the integration of digital solutions to enhance operational efficiency and responsiveness.
  • Out-of-Hours Service Oversight:

    • Participate in and report on the performance of the out-of-hours repairs service, ensuring reliability and responsiveness at all times.


Key Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a managerial or head of service role within a local authority or housing association, demonstrating a strong track record in service improvement and team leadership.
  • Excellent understanding of budget management and performance metrics.
  • Strong communication and engagement skills to effectively interact with residents and stakeholders.
