Position Summary

As the Controller, you will be responsible for managing all accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and helping the leadership team make informed financial decisions. You will work closely with the CEO to maintain the integrity of the organization's financial systems, develop financial policies and procedures, and support long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities of the Controller:

  • Financial Oversight & Reporting
    • Oversee and manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and grants management.
    • Ensure timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
    • Prepare financial statements for multiple business units and assist with budget forecasts, variance analyses, and financial planning.
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP, grant restrictions, and internal policies.
  • Audit & Compliance
    • Coordinate all audits and prepare all required documentation.
    • Ensure adherence to internal control systems and identify areas for improvement.
    • Stay updated on financial laws, nonprofit accounting standards, and tax regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Financial Strategy & Support
    • Provide financial analysis and insights to support decision-making by the leadership team.
    • Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and monitor financial performance.
    • Support grant reporting and compliance by tracking restricted funds and ensuring proper allocation.
  • Team Leadership & Development
    • Supervise, mentor, and train accounting staff to build a high-performing finance team.
    • Foster a collaborative, mission-aligned environment within the finance team.

Qualifications for the Controller:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
    • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, with at least 2 years in a nonprofit setting.
    • In-depth knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations.
    • Experience managing audits and compliance for nonprofit organizations.
    • Strong proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders.

Salary: $95K-115K, depending on experience.
