Salary Range: $62,988-$104,980

Perform duties related to security compliance and enforcement, aviation security, physical security and access control to include CCTV monitoring, incident management, training, customer service and compliance inspections of airport premises, vendors and stakeholders. Position will serve as the 'customer facing' arm of the security compliance and enforcement team and will be responsible for balancing the security requirements of the TSA with the customer service initiatives of the airport. Position also serves as lead shift representative with the responsibility of managing junior staff on all airport security duties. Management also includes scheduling, work assignment and oversight and staff mentoring.

Supervision Received

Direction received is general and focuses on accomplishing objectives which are outlined in policy and procedures on airport security. May work independently or with other staff with responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. May perform other duties as assigned.

  • Acts on behalf of aviation security manager in the absence of same.
  • Conducts, confirms and/or oversees daily security inspections to ensure airport security program compliance.
  • Liaises with members of counterpart federal and regional agencies in the interest of security operations (TSA, FBI, ICE, CBP, APD, etc.)
  • Assists in the administration and oversight of the airport gate guard services contract and the contract security personnel.
  • Ensures compliance and enforcement of the City of Atlanta codes, airport security program, federal security mandates, and other applicable regulations as related to aviation safety and security.
  • Implements security measures required for the designated threat level, as specified in the airport security program or transportation security administration security directives, program changes and information circulars.
  • Leads airport security project teams in accomplishing specific security taskings.
  • Assists in the review and approval of airport project security plans.
  • Assists security management personnel with the creation and application of temporary and/or permanent security amendments.
  • Coordinates the actions of multifunctional/multijurisdictional teams to accomplish security goals.
  • Conducts investigations of security related incidents as required.
  • Provides counseling to airport employees on security policies and procedures.
  • Provides customer service assistance to the airport community stakeholders to ensure a safe and secure environment.
  • Prepares written incident and statistical data reports or other security related reports for management and executive level personnel.
  • Participates in meetings or planning sessions for airport projects as assigned.
  • Communicates effectively with department personnel and the general public; responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information.
  • Conducts security assessments in the pursuit of identifying security vulnerabilities and developing mitigation strategies for the identified vulnerabilities.
  • Assists various federal, state and local agencies with emergency incident response and management.
  • Trains and mentors newer employees on security systems operation and procedures.
  • Conducts safety audits of airport to ensure current safety procedures are in place and functioning properly.

    Serves as lead technical resource and subject matter expert on airport security operations. Will mentor and supervise less experienced staff in completing assigned duties.

  • Considerable knowledge of federal, state and local regulations on airport security (1500 Series of Transportation Security Regulations, etc).
  • Considerable knowledge of the operation and use of computer systems and equipment utilized in the security of airports.
  • Considerable knowledge of the Airport Security Program.
  • Considerable knowledge and awareness of the Aviation Security environment.
  • Skill in conducting security assessments/audits and identifying deficiencies in security procedures.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite of Software (Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public.
  • Ability to carry out assignments and lead others in their completion.
  • Ability to operate airport security equipment and systems to maintain efficient delivery of services.
